Ben Sayers Jr. Golf Club Manufacturer
Ben Sayers Jr. commenced manufacturing golf clubs on a large scale about 1912 in North Berwick, Scotland. Over the next six decades Sayers clubs appeared throughout the world.
The BC Golf Museum received on loan a rather unique set of 10 Ben Sayers woods. The woods are clearly numbered 1 – 10. The balance point is at the same point for each club. The loft on the each wood increases as the number increases. The #10 wood has the loft of a #9 iron. Similarly the length of the shaft decreases as the loft increases.
The type of grip is characteristic for golf clubs manufactured in the early 1950’s. The corrugated sole plate for each wood is unique for the time frame, but Sayers used a similar corrugated pattern on hickory-shafted putters in the 1920’s.
