BC Golf Museum and Hall of Fame
Update

Hello,

The Selection Committee and the Board of the Directors of the BC Golf House Society are pleased to announce today that four of British Columbia’s elite golfers are to be inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame of BC on October 22nd at the prestigious Capilano Golf and Country Club.

Richard (Dick) Zokol
Leading the list is two time winner on the PGA Tour, former Canadian Amateur champion and now golf course designer and builder, Richard (Dick) Zokol.

Dick’s amateur career was impressive indeed, winning the BCGA Invitational in 1978 on the heels of having won the Vancouver City and District in 1977. He followed with a victory in the Morocco International Amateur in 1980 and the Canadian Amateur in 1981. He was a member of the Canadian World Amateur and BC Willingdon Cup Teams in 1980 and in 1981 was a member of the NCAA Championship team from Brigham Young University.

Among Dick’s impressive accomplishments as a Professional are PGA Tour wins at the Milwaukee Open and the Deposit Guaranty Open in 1992, along with winning the Canadian PGA Championship in 2001. Back in 1982 Dick also won the BC Open and in 1984 won the Utah State Open.

He was on Canada’s Dunhill Cup Team 5 times and our World Cup Team twice.

Most recent among his successes is the creation, design and building of Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club in the Nicola Valley. Just this past week Sagebrush was name the Best New Course of 2009 by SCORE magazine!

Dick has long been associated with the Marine Drive Golf Club in Vancouver, as well as now The Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club just outside Merrit, BC.

Alison Murdoch
Alison Murdoch of Victoria has won just about all there is to win since moving to British Columbia in 1998.

Seven times she has won the BCGA Zone 5 Amateur Championship and 10 times (a perfect record) she has been the Zone 5 Senior Champion.

Alison won the Canadian Senior Championship in 2002, ’04, ’05 and in ’07. Three times she won the Irish Senior Championship (2004, ’05, ’07) and added a British Senior Championship in 2007! She is believed to be the only woman from British Columbia to win on the international stage!

In 2005 Alison won the PNGA Senior and followed that in 2006 by winning the PNGA Mid Amateur, which she also won in 2008. She won the BC Senior in 2005 and again in 2009. She has been a perennial Team member playing on the BC Women’s Team in 2001, and the BC Senior Team every year since 2000 with the exception of 2008! She has also been a BCGA Team member in the PNGA Cup matches all four years the competition has existed (2006-2009)

Alison plays out of the Victoria Golf Club.

Jackie Little
As recently as last week, Jackie Little of Port Alberni added another title to an already impressive list of championship wins over the past three decades. A runaway victory in the Canadian Senior Women’s Championship at Osprey Ridge Golf Club in Nova Scotia demonstrated clearly that Jackie is not finished winning!

Jackie won the BC Amateur back in 1992 after finishing second in 1989. She won it again in 1993 and followed that with wins in 2000, ’01 and ’03.

She won the BC Mid Amateur in three successive years – 2006,’07 and again in ’08 and then finished second in 2009. In 2007 she also won the Canadian Mid Amateur.

In 2008, her first year of senior eligibility, she won the BC Senior Women’s Championship, the PNGA Senior Championship and the Canadian Senior Championship as well, and then successfully defended her Canadian Championship in 2009.

Jackie has won the Zone 2 Amateur title 10 times, the Zone 6 title three times and the Zone 6 Seniors title in 2008 and again in 2009.

A BC Women’s Team member for BC 11 times, she has been on the Mid Amateur Team 4 times and the Senior Team twice.

Jackie plays out of The Hollies Golf Course in Port Alberni (which she and husband Pat own) as well as the Alberni Golf Club and the Vernon Golf & Country Club.

Steve Berry
Steve Berry of Victoria racked up a list of championships through out the 70’s.80’s and 90’s that ensured his place at the top of the list of players in the province! Following are some but certainly not all of his highlights.

In 1972 Steve Berry was crowned the BC Junior Champion and finished second in the BCGA Junior Invitational in 1979. He then won the BC Amateur Championship in 1981, and was runner up in 1987 and 1991.

Steve also won the BC Mid Amateur in 1994 and again in 1997.

In 1979 he won the Vancouver City Match Play and then in 1983 he won the prestigious Vancouver City and District Championship.

He won the Vancouver Island Match Play in 1994 and was a finalist in 1996,’99 and again 2004.

Steve has been a member of the BC Senior Team three times, as well as playing on the Hudson Cup Team in 1981 and the PNGA Morse Cup Teams in 1991, ’96 and ’97.

About Us

The Golf Hall of Fame was created, and is administered, by the BC Golf House Society under the brand of the BC Golf Museum and Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame and the BC Golf Museum are located in the restored original clubhouse of the University Golf Club, on the grounds of UBC at 10th Avenue and Blanca Street in Vancouver. The building, constructed in 1929 was designed in the style of a British India cottage and houses the Museum collection, histories of BC’s greatest golfers and golf courses past and present across the province. It is independently funded, relying on financial support from the golf and business community in BC.
